August 29, 2008

Dear Parents & Guardians,

It is hard to believe that in a few short days your children will be back in school! As mentioned in the “August mailing”, many improvements to our facilities have taken place over the summer, and we are eager to have the children begin experiencing them as part of their day-to-day school life.

With these recent improvements, there are several changes to the way people enter and leave our buildings:

•  As of September, the new Main Entrance is relocated to the area formerly known as the “preschool lobby”, which will be staffed by a receptionist from 7:45 am each morning until 6 pm in the evening.
Students taking the bus or being dropped off by a parent in the morning can continue to enter the building at the “top” of the circle (i.e., by the High School and Lower School) until 8:30 am each day, at which time these doors will be locked for the remainder of the school day.
Students arriving after 8:30 am, parents coming during the day, and all other visitors should enter and sign-in at the new Main Entrance.

In addition to beautifying several areas of the school, these changes will improve overall security by limiting building access, and ensuring that anyone entering is met by a receptionist.

As you already know, the biggest improvement to our premises is the renovation of our library. A significant undertaking, finishing touches will not be completed until October, when the students can begin using this space again. While there will be ongoing work while school is in session, please be assured that the construction area is self-contained within the walls of the library and thoroughly sealed off from the rest of the school building. Additionally, while renovation work is being completed, extra cleaning efforts will be made in the hallways and classrooms to ensure a healthy environment for our entire community. Towards that end, we would also appreciate parents refraining from entering work areas, both inside and outside of the building. We know everyone is excited to see the final results; however, safety is our first priority.

On a final note, it is important that parents and community members know exactly how these improvements were funded. Of the $2M+ cost of improvements and renovations over the past several years, not one penny was paid from student tuition revenue. All of these projects were funded by contributions to the school’s Capital Campaign. How fortunate our school is to have such dedicated parents, trustees, alumni and alumni families, faculty, staff, and friends! Their commitment to this school, and to our students, has made all of this remarkable work possible.

We look forward to welcoming you back to school next Wednesday!

Sincerely,

Susan Braun
