Board of Trustees
Since its inception in 1979, the Board of Trustees of the Waldorf School has established the school’s financial policies, overseen the development and implementation of the school’s budget, determined tuition rates and developed long-range plans to support the continued health and growth of the institution.  The Board is comprised of selected members of the school community who volunteer their individual areas of expertise and their collective devotion to the School.  In addition to the following trustees, high school french teacher Reina White and kindergarten assistant teacher Keelah Nurse Helwig ‘88 serve as Faculty Representatives to the Board.  The School Administrator, Finance & Facilities Director, Development Director, Admissions Director, Faculty Chair and College Chair are all ex-officio members of the Board of Trustees.

Marilyn Cranin is the longest standing member of the Board.  A landscape designer and horticultural therapist, the Waldorf School is proud to be counted among the institutions that have benefited from her fundraising insight and enthusiasm, namely the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, the Five Towns Senior Center and her alma mater Beaver College.  Marilyn is the mother of three Waldorf alumni: Jonathan '72, Andrew '75, and Elizabeth '80.

Jay Dorman, Board Chair

A partner at Bryan Cave LLP, Jay Dorman has experience in a broad range of corporate and securities areas. A member of the New York State and American Bar Associations, Jay graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and in 1981, he received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School.  For many years during the 1990s as parents in the school, Jay and his wife Diana served as co-chairs of the Parent Association.  They are the parents of three Waldorf alumni: Jennifer '95, Kenneth '99 and Joanna '05.

Jeffrey Kane is the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Long Island University. A trained and experienced Waldorf educator, Jeff completed his Waldorf Teacher Training at the Waldorf Institute at Adelphi University and taught at the Rudolf Steiner School in Manhattan for a number of years.  He and his wife, Janet, our nursery teacher, are also the parents of Gabriel '99, Emily '01 and Jesse '05.

Jon Karnofsky is the general counsel and senior vice president at the New York branch of HSH Nordbank AG.  He and his wife Jackie are the parents of four alumni:  Nate '99, Philip '02, Rebecca '04, and Angelica '07.

A former Senior Vice President at Citigroup Global Markets Inc, Ed Magee is now the Director at Markit – a financial information services company.  A graduate of Boston University where he received his bachelor's degree with a major in economics, Ed's professional background includes experiences in both large and small companies.  In recent years, he and his wife Mikel have served as the co-chairs of the School's Parent Association.  They have two children currently enrolled in the school.

Kristin Eisert Miller

An alumna of the Waldorf School in Reutlingen, Germany, Kristin Eisert Miller has a lifetime of experience with Waldorf education.  She began her Waldorf teacher training in Stuttgart, Germany and later continued at Sunbridge College in Chestnut Ridge, New York.  In 2001, she joined the Waldorf School as a teaching assistant and later became a class teacher.  In 2006, she joined the school's Board of Trustees and has since been an active member on the Development Committee.   Kristin is a volunteer, supporter and advocate for many nonprofit organizations throughout Long Island.

Bruce Murphy

Bruce Murphy is vice chair of the Board.  Upon graduating from Bowdoin College, Bruce enrolled in the Waldorf Institute at Adelphi University and soon became a class teacher at our School.  Today, Bruce is the manager of The Milleridge Inn in Jericho, New York - a restaurant and catering facility that dates back to the early 17th Century settlements of Long Island.  In recent years, Bruce has also coached our varsity track team.  He and his wife Roxanne Martindale Murphy '70 are the parents of Christopher '97 and Thomas '00.

Barbara Schiola

Barbara Schiola is Director of Human Resources at JCDecaux North America, an international media and communications company.  With a bachelor's of fine arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Barbara has over ten years of experience in large corporations, mid-size companies and start-ups across a wide variety of industries.  She and her husband Albert Longoria have one child enrolled in the school.

Barbara Schiola

Scott A. Williams '85

Scott A. Williams '85 is an alumnus of the School and was formerly the School's Executive Director of Development.  He is currently a Managing Director at Changing Our World, Inc., a philanthropic consulting firm.  Prior to his career in fundraising, Scott coached both college baseball and football and served as an officer of the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division, Foreign Missions Branch.   He is a graduate of Trinity University.
