Earth Day Celebration

Date: Friday - April 19, 2013
Time: All Day

Grades 1-12 will celebrate Earth Day on Friday, April 19th.

In the morning, students in grades 1-3 will plant marigolds in the garden. (Marigolds are an excellent form of organic pest control.) They will also listen to a story about spring from Ms. Cohen, a French story about the Earth from Madame Kadri, and participate in some fun Earth-day games with Ms. Bolz. Afterwards, they will see a bee demonstration with Mrs. Davis and a local beekeeper and will taste some yummy organic honey.

In the afternoon, students in grades 4-12 will split into small groups to work on the school grounds from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm followed by a small celebration in the Cranin Courtyard with snacks and music.

Horticulture and Gardening Teacher Ms. Jeannine Davis wishes to bring your attention to a few important items:

  • The dress code will be relaxed for Friday, April 19th. Students can wear jeans and gardening-clothes to school. I encourage students to wear t-shirts that have earth- or nature- friendly themes.
  • Student should bring-in a water bottle from home with his/her name labeled clearly on it. During the afternoon work-period, students will need to bring their water bottles outside as it is important to remain hydrated while out in the sun.
  • Finally, if you are interested in volunteering for our Earth Day celebration, please email Sabine Kully (kullys@waldorfgarden.org) and she will assign you to a group.

Thank you. For more information, please contact Mrs. Jeannine Davis.
