Nursery and Mixed-Age Kindergarten Classes:
The Nursery and Mixed-Age Kindergarten classes will celebrate Halloween on Wednesday, October 31st. Children are welcome to wear their costumes to school. The Early Childhood faculty asks that these costumes be simple and imaginative, homemade if possible. A simple cape and crown; a pair of wings and a magic wand; a few strategically placed felt cutouts and a hat – these can be very satisfying props for the perfect Halloween costume. Allow your child’s imagination to fill in the rest. Sophisticated or media-based costumes often get in the way of the child’s own imaginative play and experience of dressing up. Please do not send the children with masks, face paint or anything that will be worn on their faces, goodie bags or candy. Please do send in a change of clothes if your child’s costume is not being worn over regular school clothes.
Grades 1-4:
Grades 1-4 will celebrate Halloween during the afternoon on Wednesday, October 31st. Activities will include a gathering of all four classes on the playground. The teachers will lead songs and games, share a story and provide a snack for all. It is important for all the children to follow these guidelines for their costumes:
- Students should not wear their costume to school but carry it in a sturdy bag.
- Masks, hair dye and excessive face paint are not allowed.
- Please stay away from media inspired costumes.
- Do not allow anything gory, violent or overly mature.
Remember, the simpler, the better! Given some dress-up clothes and a little help from an adult, children have the most fun creating their own costume (the least expensive and most green-friendly as well!) The teachers encourage students to consider a costume based on one of the many wonderful characters from the stories they hear at school. Please be sure your child has comfortable shoes and a costume he/she can run and play in! The games can be frustrating if they are not able to participate because of their costume. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to a fun afternoon together!
Grade 5:
Grade 5 will celebrate Halloween at Camp Glen Brook, complete with trick-or-treating and jack-o-lanterns. The children may bring their costumes on the trip. The costumes need to conform to the school rules for taste (see Grades 1-4 above), safety and warmth. The class may have a few outside activities in the forest as part of their Halloween celebration.
Grades 6-8
Grades 6-8 will celebrate their Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 30th from 1:15 pm to 3:00 pm in the School Gymnasium.
Grades 9-12:
Grades 9-12 (High School) will celebrate their Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 31st from 1:15 pm - 3:00 pm in the School Gymnasium. Creative costumes, party games and refreshments will round out the festivities.
