What is the Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund is the single most important fundraising effort for the School each year. Your contribution to the Annual Fund helps to close the gap in funding between tuition revenue and the ever-increasing cost to operate our School - from faculty and staff salaries, to instructional materials, equipment and building maintenance. We ask for the support of everyone in our community --- current parents, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, alumni parents and friends of the School.

Why is it important to give?

Strong participation in the Annual Fund from our current parents makes a compelling case for others to give. It demonstrates a unified and involved community, and encourages support from our extended community.

If tuition doesn’t cover operating expenses, why not raise tuition?

Raising tuition to cover annual operating expenses of the School would limit the number of qualified applicants who could afford to attend the Waldorf School.

What is the average gift amount contributed to the Annual Fund by current parents?

Last year the average gift to the Annual Fund was $200. Gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated.

What is the difference between the Annual Fund and the Fall Fair?

Both are key fundraising activities that support the School. The Fall Fair is organized annually by the Parent Association, and proceeds are used at the discretion of this group. For example, Fall Fair proceeds are often the primary source of funding for the annual “Wish List”. In contrast, the Annual Fund directly funds operating costs like classroom supplies, maintenance of the buildings, grounds and utilities.

What is the difference between my class dues and a contribution to the Annual Fund?

Giving a gift to the Annual Fund is separate from paying class dues. Your class dues help to fund small class-related items, such as gifts for the teacher or refreshments for meetings. In later years, the balance of this fund can be used to support the cost of the 8th or 12th grade class trip.

Can I give an in-kind donation of goods or services?

While we appreciate all gifts to the School, an in-kind donation does not help to pay for costs like utilities and other operating expenses required to run the School.

Can I donate a gift of securities?

I have more than one child in the school. Do I have to make a gift for each child in order to receive the participation credit for all of their classes?

We are very grateful to receive one gift per family! All of the grades represented in your household are credited for your gift.

How do I make my gift?

Can my gift be matched by my company?

Contact your employer’s Human Resources office to see if your company matches charitable donations. You may be able to double or even triple your gift!

Is my gift eligible for tax credit?

Yes. All gifts are acknowledged with an official receipt issued by the Office of Development verifying that you have made a contribution.

How often will I be contacted?

We send two to three direct-mail appeals each year, and we host one Volunteer Phone-a-thon annually in an attempt to reach as many individuals as possible. Once you make your Annual Fund gift, you are removed from our outreach schedule. Making your gift by December 31st is a great idea: it provides a year-end tax advantage for you, and the School saves the cost of sending you additional mailings.
