The Nature of Mathematics

Kindergarten aged children think in very specific and concrete terms. They respond positively to the challenge of identifying shapes, collecting and describing collections and building things. At some point then they see that certain ideas and activities are mathematical, scientific or technological. But when that labeling happens is less important than the simple operations on them and to do so in as many different contexts as possible.
