Dear 3rd Grade Parents and Guardians,

On this mid-August afternoon, our thoughts might not be turned to school. Hopefully, you and your children are enjoying a refreshing swim in the ocean or spending a long evening outside listening to the cicadas. But on campus and here in my study, preparations are being made for the new school year. I am very ready to see my third graders and to hear their summer stories.

As always I have a list of things I would like the children to bring on the first day of school:

  • A shoe box with extra clothes: socks, underwear, pants or skirt, and a top.
  • Rain gear and rain boots. This is not only important for rainy recesses but also for gardening.
  • Gym shoes which will stay in school.
  • A smock for painting. An old shirt with the sleeves cut off is fine.
  • A place-mat for lunch and snack time to protect our desks from oily or sticky food.

For snack and lunch, please do not send candy and other sweets to school. Lunch boxes should not display images from electronic games, TV, movies or other media. We have filtered water available in the classroom; but if you would like to send water to school, please consider using reusable bottles.

Last but not least, please consult the parent handbook for guidelines when shopping for school clothes.

I plan to have our first parent evening of the school year shortly after school begins with a staff member from Camp Glen Brook. This individual will provide us with an introduction to the third grade's visit to Camp Glen Brook (10/08 to 10/11). In my next message, I will give you a date for this parent evening.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you and your children in September!

Yours,

Jutta Goble
