Dear Eighth Grade Students, Parents and Guardians:
Welcome back to school! I hope that you have spent your summer in interesting ways, and that you have enjoyed your time off. I am looking forward to hearing about your various summer adventures. As the summer is coming to a close, the time approaches now to look ahead to the start of your eighth grade school year.
Our opening full day will be on Tuesday, September 3. This will be a two-day school week. As we will be beginning with our opening assembly, please make sure to wear assembly clothes on the first day of school. On Tuesday, I would like for you to bring the three summaries that you have written on the three books that you have read from your summer reading list. Bring those three summaries in a solid colored folder with your name on it. Make sure that each summary has a heading on it, and that the title and author of the book you read is clearly indicated at the top of your summary.
On Wednesday, I would like for you to bring all the books on your textbook list outside of the novels. The novels may stay at home until we begin using them. I would like to make sure that all of you have the correct books from your school district. We will sort this out together, and make sure to account for books that you did not receive.
I would also like for you to have the following materials as you begin the school year. Please bring the materials that you already have with you on Tuesday, the first day of school. You will have an opportunity to purchase the items from the list that you will need from the bookstore as well.
Each student will need these supplies to begin the year:
- A set of colored pencils
- A compass (special model to be purchased in bookstore)
- A 2 inch three ring binder for main lesson notes and language arts
- 15 durable dividers
- 5 folders with pockets that should be put into the back of your binder
- 100 sheets of lined paper, that should be put into your binder
- 3 packages of 3 inch by 5 inch white, ruled index cards and a box to store them in
- Fountain pen with ink fillers
- 5 spare ink cartridges
- Ink eraser
- 3 lead pencils with good erasers
- A graphic ruler (bookstore model)
- Covers for all workbooks/textbooks other than novels
- A new sketch pad that will be used for geometric drawing (blank durable pages)
Please cover all books that you bring in on Wednesday, September 4, other than the novels on your book list. There will be a few more items that you will need as the year progresses, and I will give you advanced notice before you need them. Make sure that your bookstore and lunch card accounts have been filled.
Get plenty of rest in the next short weeks, enjoy, and be ready to begin your eighth grade school year!
I look forward to seeing you soon, and to beginning a great year.
