Florence was born and raised in Paris, France. She attended the Université de Paris VII and earned her licence in comparative French-English linguistics. Upon graduation, she worked at the EuroSchool teaching English to French children and spent her summers taking care of bi-lingual children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She pursued graduate studies in linguistics at the Université de Paris VII and eventually enrolled in a student-exchange program. Her studies brought her to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she spent a year as a teacher's assistant in a French-immersion school. In nearby Ann Arbor, Michigan, Florence pursued the Waldorf teacher training program at the Anthroposophical Society of America and soon thereafter, she found her way to New York at the Waldorf School of Garden City.
