Hisaichi Shimura was born in Japan. After participating in a master class with Lewis Kaplan, he moved to the United States where he later earned his bachelor’s and master’s of music from the Mannes College of Music. His festival credits include Tanglewood, Salzburg, Bowdoin College and the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival. His New York recital debut, in 1997, was at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall as an Artists International Competition winner. He currently presents solo recitals and performs chamber music in the United States, South America and Japan. He is a member of various orchestras including the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra as the principal 2nd violinist, the New York Virtuosi Chamber Symphony, and Solistas Mexico Japon in Mexico. He was a teaching assistant to Lewis Kaplan at the Juilliard School pre-college division. He is a member of the music faculty at the Newark School of the Arts, Greenwich House Music School, and the Waldorf School of Garden City.
