Physical Education/Movement/Dance Position

The Waldorf School of Garden City is seeking a trained Spacial Dynamics Instructor for a unique movement opportunity. This position includes teaching Physical Education in grades 1 through 5, Integrated Movement in grades 7 and 8, and Dance in grades 6 through 12. A transition year, working with the present Movement Instructor, Bonnie Bolz, is being offered. This first year includes teaching responsibilities as well as observation time, enabling the new teacher to fully experience the details of this multi-faceted program.

The Waldorf School of Garden City offers beautiful indoor spaces including a gymnasium with a full stage, a multi purpose Student Room (where the Dance lessons are taught) and a Eurythmy Room used for Eurythmy, movement and plays. The School also provides two large outdoor playing fields and a baseball diamond. A maintained Nature Trail surrounds the school campus.

Dedicated to working out of Rudolf Steiner's picture of child development, our faculty reflects a blend of youth and experience, and our school values and encourages both creativity and initiative. The School’s comprehensive benefits package includes health, life, and disability insurance, along with a school-funded retirement account, and ample funds for professional development. With a salary range of $40,000 to $72,000 (based upon experience), a generous relocation package, and supplemental funding available, our school is committed to supporting its faculty.

Serving 350 students from early childhood through high school, the Waldorf School of Garden City offers a number of additional programs, including Parent-Child Classes, an Afternoon Program and Homework Club, along with Summer Programs in both Garden City and at the School’s 250-acre extended campus in New Hampshire called Camp Glenbrook. Long Island is home to a strong anthroposophical community, and the Winkler Center for Adult Learning provides a well-established Foundation Studies at our School facility. The Waldorf School also has strong relationships to Adelphi University and other area colleges.
