LEADERSHIP SKILLS: RESEARCH/TECHNOLOGY
In this course, students learn the skills necessary for success in researching topics for the papers and presentations they will be expected to tackle in their freshman year. Using research methods taught previously we will begin to expand our knowledge into the realm of the digital world. We cover topics such as; Work Citation, plagiarism, and Organizational tools as well as preparing students for research in the digital age. They will receive hands on training by using the school’s online databases, learn to evaluate the credibility of internet websites and other sources, as well as learning how to use Microsoft Word, Power Point, and a basic introduction to graphing in Microsoft Excel.
Leadership Skills: Life Skills
This leadership seminar is spearheaded by the school guidance counselor to lead student discussions on issues such as mental health, relationships, and personal growth. The main goals of the course include establishing rapport between the counselor and students, both individually and collectively as a graduating cohort and facilitating discussion of relationships, events, and issues in all other systems outside of and within the WSGC High School in the safety of a confidential and non-judgmental environment.
Freshmen are administered an assessment that encourages reflection on personal goals, strengths, and weaknesses. The results are used to help the counselor anticipate and tailor college counseling needs for each individual student.
