Score:06-18
Event Recap:

Waldorf's Varsity Softball Team lost yesterday to Long Island Lutheran High School (LuHi) by the score of 06-18 bringing their league record to 1-1.

Waldorf got off to a good start with some timely hitting from sophomore Rachel Bossuk and senior captain Lauren Gray. Led by outstanding pitching from junior Isabella Fraim and some good team base running, Waldorf was even up 6-4. But that was not to last. Said Coach LeSueur, "LuHi started to hit the ball and we aided their cause with several throwing errors and bad decisions which saw them score nine runs in the bottom of the third inning."

There were lessons to be taught. Waldorf made several outstanding defensive plays with clutch catches and terrific throws from sophomore third baseman Jaclyn Proctor, shortstop Lauren Gray and sophomore catcher Marie Anna Paone.

"We actually only had eight players to start the game but Paone and 8th grader Skyla Davis showed up to make us full strength."

Coach LeSueur was especially impressed with Davis as she showed she could hit with power in her 2 at bats. Junior left fielder Anne Flomenhaft had several key catches in the later innings to keep the score respectable.

"Our tri-captains led by the seniors Victoria Jones (2nd basemen), Erin Stuckenbruck (1st basemen) and Lauren Gray (shortstop)," said Coach LeSueur, "all led by example as they made several key defensive stops at their respective positions.

Waldorf looks to add some power hitting when the team will once again face LuHi in a rematch game on Wednesday, April 4th at home at 4:30 p.m. Come out and cheer the team on.
