Event Recap: Waldorf's Varsity Softball Team extended its IPPSAL record to 3 wins and 2 losses with a 19-06 win over visiting Lawrence Woodmere Academy.
The winning pitcher was senior Lauren Gray who also drove-in the winning runs to end the game. Clutch hitting by junior Isabella Fraim and sophomores Jaclyn Proctor and Rachel Bossuk provided all the offensive punch the team needed for the day. Fraim highlighted the game with a deep shot to center field which she turned into a home run. Once again, senior Victoria Jones increased her on-base percentage as the team's lead-off hitter - scoring every time she was up. After being out ill for the past few games, senior Erin Stuckenbruck returned and scored the winning run off Gray’s single up the middle in the final inning.
One of the key hits of the game was a terrific bunt laid down by sophomore Marianna Paone which the LWA team mishandled - providing Waldorf with two key runs. Freshman Emma Wallace started her second game as the team's catcher and played excellently, keeping LWA from advancing as she blocked numerous pitches. Playing in her first ever varsity game was 7th grader Abby Picoli. Picoli played solid defense and impressed Coach LeSueur with her hitting abilities.
"Our next game is Tuesday, April 24th when we travel to St. James, Long Island to play the Knox School at 4:30 pm," said Coach LeSueur. On Wednesday, April 25th the team will host Knox at home. "Come out and cheer the team as these two games are crucial to our team's playoff run!" |
