In their second match of the season, Waldorf's Middle School Boys Soccer Team hosted St. Agnes and though both teams came out strong, St. Agnes was able to score the game’s first goal off a corner kick at the 2:15 minute.
For the next 17 minutes, both teams traded possession and lost scoring opportunities due to the staunch defenses and strong goalkeeper play. St. Agnes; however, finally broke-through for another goal on a well placed shot to the opposite post and took a 00-02 lead at halftime.
Coming into the second half, St. Agnes was able to quickly jump out to a full attack and scored their third goal with less than one minute in to increase their lead to 00-03. Waldorf put on the all out offensive pressure to try to work their way back in to the game, but once again St. Agnes used their speed and skills to turn away the attacks and create a scoring break that put Waldorf in a 00-04 hole with less than thirty minutes remaining in the match.
Waldorf continued to play hard, and put together some very well conceived passing schemes, but their shots continued to either miss their mark, or the opposing goalkeeper made the saves. St. Agnes completed the scoring with a goal in added injury time for the 00-05 win. Waldorf’s two goalies, 7th grader Brennan Bates and 8th grader Issac Stume recorded 14 saves. A good learning experience against a quality opponent, regardless of the outcome.
