Varsity Girls Basketball vs. the Knox School
Posted 01/11/2013 08:00PM

Waldorf's Varsity Girls Basketball Team once again had too much firepower, speed and size for the overmatched team from the Knox School, winning 49-19 as Waldorf's record improves to 08-02 and 07-01 in IPPSAL.

As always, the Waldorf team demonstrated good sportsmanship and held back on running up the score. "In both our last two games, the coaches and athletic directors from the opposing schools have expressed to Coach LeSueur and Coach Brown that Waldorf 'wins with class', which is a credit to our players and school."

Senior co-captain Isabella Fraim led the offensive surge recording 14 points from inside and outside the key. Waldorf's vocal defensive leader, junior center Ajanai Miller Randolph (9 points), improved tremendously at both ends of the court with her rebounding and soft touches for quality put backs. "These two players will need to continue their strong inside presence if we are going to be a serious playoff team," said Coach LeSueur.

Coach LeSueur gave every player quality minutes. Showing fine balance, all nine players scored in the game.

The guard play of juniors Jaclyn Proctor (7 points), Marianna Paone (4 point) and Sofia Trikas (4 points) enabled the team to run many "offensive sets." All three can play multiple positions.

Sophomore power forward Mikayla Ver Pault (4 point) continues to impress.

Senior co-captain Carolyn Smalls and fellow senior Katarina D'ercole contributed two points each. Smalls's quickness makes her the team's best defensive guard. Her ability to get the ball to the right spot at the right time is greatly appreciated by the inside players. D'Ercole has played two strong games in a row and her athleticism and toughness makes her a strong ball winner under the backboard.

Two freshmen made their presence felt during this game. Teagan Novick was asked to run the point for the first time and did not disappoint with her good passing decisions. Skyla Davis (3 points) played inside. She starting to use her skill and size to cause problems for teams in the paint.
