Event Recap:

Waldorf's Varsity Boys Soccer Team improved its IPPSAL league record with a strong win over the Knox School by the score of 06 -01.

The team came out strong from the opening whistle and were rewarded for their hustle about 10 minutes into the game. Junior forward Axel Epie scored first with a quick release off a throw-in from senior co-captain Orin Pierce. Our second goal was scored by freshman midfielder Max Sapuppo who also played excellent defense throughout the match.

Pierce had a banner day as he recorded the "hat trick" by scoring three goals over the afternoon and picking up two assists in the process for a total of five points on his own.Junior co-captain and central striker Peter Escribano scored a great goal when he hit a drive from about 25 yards out that left the goalkeeper flailing at the air as it barreled into the top of the net. The score was 04-01 at the end of the first-half.

In the second half, Pierce picked up his speedy wing play and found the net. His third goal of the game was a well-struck half volley from about 18 yards out that left the Knox goalkeeper without a chance of getting a hand to it.

Senior goalkeeper Max Novick was in terrific form. Novick's stellar play was a key in the win as he continued to frustrate the crafty forwards of Knox. He was ably assisted by the outstanding defensive play of junior Ho Sub Kim who demonstrated tremendous skill and leadership from his sweeper back position.

Coach LeSueur used every one of the travel party of 19 players and all the substitutes received significant playing time. Freshman goalkeeper William Strauss showed his talents as he played as a wing defender and midfielder. Waldorf's talented but still learning freshman class gave hope for the future as striker Daimon Arianas, midfielder George Oulette and defenders Sage Choi and Oliver Jaskowski played with great poise and determination.

Senior co-captain Caleb Yuan controlled much of the midfield play and continues to show his leadership on the field. Sophomore midfielder Deepjot Singh showed steady improvement. Sophomore defensive left-fullback Sheppard Sommers has been a great asset.
