Event Recap:

Playing in their first home game of the 2012 season, Waldorf's Varsity Boys Soccer Team hosted Our Savior New America (OSNA). This was the teams' second meeting of the season.

Waldorf once again came out strong offensively working to control the midfield and set up scoring opportunities. After several attempts, junior tri-captain forward Peter Escribano slipped a shot into the corner of the goal at 14:15 and gave Waldorf the early 1-0 lead. But less than three and a half minutes later, OSNA countered when they overloaded their offense and a defender got open at the top of the goal box to score through the crowd. The game was tied 1-1.

It took Waldorf less than a minute to regain the lead when sophomore defender Sheppard Somers put up a high arcing ball directly in front of the goal from forty yards out. Escribano beat the goalkeeper with a header and scored his second goal of the game, putting Waldorf back on top 2-1. The defense of seniors Caleb Yuan, Greg Weiss and Eric Tsai, junior Ho Sub Kim, and Somers held OSNA’s offense in check through the end of the first half.

In the second half, OSNA came out with their own offensive push and quickly tied the game at 2-2 on a scramble in front of senior goalkeeper Max Novick. Waldorf exerted more pressure and continued to take open shots. It wasn't until until Escribano controlled a loose ball at the top of the goal box and fed freshman forward Sage Choi for the goal and the 3-2 lead.

With less than five minutes remaining in the game, OSNA had another breakaway run at the goal and tucked another shot into the lower corner, just pass the reach of Novick. The game was tied at 3-3. In the remaining time, Waldorf went on the offense, making a flurry of shots. Though they continually beat the goalkeeper, five consecutive shots glanced off the crossbar and two glanced off the post. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. Waldorf outshot OSNA 29-12, and 7-3 in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Max Novick recorded 8 saves to the opponent’s five saves.
