Event Recap:

In a rematch game, Waldorf's Varsity Boys Soccer Team traveled to Locust Valley, New York to face the Portledge School on what turned out to be a very nice fall day. Portledge came out with a furious attack early on, catching Waldorf off-guard, and scored the game’s first goal to take a 00-01 lead.

Less than ten minutes later, Waldorf calmly took the advantage scoring three goals in under five minutes. The first came from a feed right up the middle from tri-captain midfielder Caleb Yuan (senior) to senior forward Marco Spitaliere who placed the ball passed the Portledge goalkeeper and into the net's corner. Two minutes later, junior forward Axel Epie tucked the ball into the corner off senior tri-captain midfielder Orin Pearce’s throw-in. Less than three minutes later, junior tri-captain midfielder Peter Escribano fed Pearce a through pass down the middle that Pearce converted for a 03-01 Waldorf lead.

Ten minutes later, Escribano drove a low line direct penalty kick into the near corner from the top of the goal box for a 04-01 lead. Two minutes later, senior defender Eric Tsai fed junior forward Thomas "TJ" Bohm a lead pass from the midfield line who took it down the field and beat the goalkeeper with a shot into the corner for the 05-01 halftime Waldorf lead.

Waldorf’s senior goalkeeper Max Novick recorded four very difficult acrobatic saves, as well as leaping over the Portledge attack to take away three corner kicks. The defensive unit of Tsai, juniors Ho Sub Kim and Sam Resnick, with assistance from Yuan, sophomore Deepjot Singh and freshman Oliver Jaskowski held Portledge to only five first-half shots.

In the second half, Waldorf continued to work hard to maintain ball possession and build up attacks as they took control of the game and tempo. Tsai gave Spitaliere another pass down the middle for his second goal to close out the game’s scoring and the 06-01 Waldorf win.

Stand out performances by Kim and Resnick in the defense, Pearce, Yuan, Escribano, Tsai and Singh in the midfield, and Epie and Spitaliere in the attack. All eighteen Waldorf players put in valuable minutes in both halves to bring their record to 5-2-1. Waldorf outshot Portledge 32-7 and 5-4 in corner kicks. The goalkeeping tandem of Novick (1st half) and freshman William Strauss (2nd half) recorded 5 saves.
