Portledge Basketball Tournament
In the first game of the Portledge Basketball Tournament, Waldorf was defeated by a tenacious team from Martin Luther High School (Maspeth, Queens). "Martin Luther pressed Waldorf from start to finish," said Coach LeSueur. "Waldorf jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but that may have woken up the Martin Luther team. The final score was 26-46."
Martin Luther's full court press forced Waldorf into many turnovers. At the end of the half, the score was 16-22 in favor of Martin Luther. Coach LeSueur, eager to give ALL of his 13 players quality minutes, made frequent substitutions throughout the game. First year players Emma Wallace (freshman), Sofia Trikas (sophomore), Erin Stuckenbruck (senior), Nicole Tsai (freshman), and Lexi Van Zant (junior) all received valuable playing minutes and exposure to Martin Luther’s full court press.
Said Coach LeSueur, "My hope is this 'baptism by fire' will help the team mature in later post-season games."
Once again, Waldorf was led by junior center Isabella Fraim who scored 10 points. Forward Stuckenbruck came off the bench and ignited Waldorf's offense with six points in the second quarter. Co-captain Carolyn Smalls (junior), Jaclyn Proctor (sophomore), Marianna Paone (sophomore), Lauren Gray (senior), and Ajanai Miller-Randolph (sophomore) all recorded two points each.
