Inspiration for our Community

The last few weeks have been difficult for us all.  Some of us suffered great loss while the rest suffer from watching the pain of our close friends and loved ones.  I stumbled across this poem the other day.  Upon hearing it I was touched with a surge of emotion that was sadness and relief at the same time.  There is an interesting perspective to take in situations such as these, situations none of us should have to experience.  I share this poem with all of you now in hopes that you can find some relief in it as well.

"This being human is a guest house

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,

whoviolently sweep your house

empty of it's furniture,

still treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark though, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond."

~Rumi~

I hope this poem finds you well.  Good times are coming for you all.

Our first session will be Wednesday October 3rd.

Endymion Spring Book Cover

The first book we are reading will be, Endymion Spring by Matthew Skelton.  This is a very exciting story that mixes present day adventure and mystery, with the history of Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press! Students will be asked to read certain chapters each week to be discussed as a group with me and their peers.  We will explore the truths hidden within the novel as well as enjoy the magic and excitement of being part of the hunt for “The Last Book”.

Register online using the Online Registration Form or contact Lynn Bufano at 516.742.3434 EXT. 322 OR BUFANOL@WALDORFGARDEN.ORG

5th Grade Book Club

Hello Everyone,

The Princess and Curdie cover

This month the Fifth Grade Book Club is reading The Princess and Curdie by George MacDonald.  This is a beautifully written classic novel with many positive messages.  Our hopes for this book club is to foster an appreciation and love of reading among our students. Mr. Reynolds and I meet with the students each week to discuss the reading and explore their thoughts and discoveries arising from the reading. So far this has proven to be a worthwhile, thought-provoking endeavor.
