Waldorf Community attends performance by Paul Taylor Dance Company at Lincoln Center
March 30, 2012 (Garden City, N.Y.) - Two-hundred guests and supporters from the Waldorf School of Garden City gathered on Saturday, March 24th to see an afternoon matinee of the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s premiere season at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. Proceeds from this special fundraising event went to benefit the Waldorf School’s Music Program.
Said Marjorie P. Jean-Paul, Director of Development from the Waldorf School of Garden City, “We were delighted to work with alumnus John Tomlinson (class of 1977), the executive director of the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation Inc., to see this world-renowned dance company while at the same time raising support for the School’s music program.”
Proceeds from the event benefited the General Music Program, the Jazz Band, the George V. Rose Music Scholarship Fund and the Jeanette Resnick Music Endowment Fund. “I want to gratefully acknowledge our event sponsors and volunteers for their help in underwriting this special event,” said Ms. Jean-Paul. “Without their generous support, this event would not have been possible.”

Guests enjoyed three dance pieces, entitled “Arabesque,” “Three Dubious Memories” and “Cloven Kingdom” as well as a complimentary reception in the Koch Theater’s Patron Lounge. A few lucky premium ticket holders and event sponsors also enjoyed a VIP backstage tour of the Koch Theater after the performance.
“I was thrilled to bring so many from the Waldorf community to see the Taylor Company,” said Mr. Tomlinson. “Connecting my love for Paul Taylor’s work back to the Waldorf School of Garden City was especially significant to me because it is the love for art and music that Waldorf awoke within me during my childhood.”
The afternoon was a wonderful success and offered numerous Waldorf families, faculty, students and alumni an opportunity to enjoy a modern dance performance while renewing old connections and making new ones. “Throughout the performance, I enjoyed the sheer energy and juxtaposition of the music and movement,” said Ms. Patricia Pearce, eurythmy teacher from the Waldorf School of Garden City. (Eurythmy is a form of movement education taught at Waldorf schools where students learn spatial and rhythmical elements through speech and music.)
