Students Win Awards at Annual Sprachfest

On Saturday, March 23rd, the Long Island chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) held its annual Sprachfest, a language festival fostering the learning and sharing of German language skills and cultural events.

Commack High School hosted this year’s Sprachfest with over 350 students from 11 schools across Long Island attending. The Waldorf School of Garden City participated with students from grades 7 through 12 under the guidance of Juliane Schneider. The following results of several competitions reflect the enthusiasm and hard work of the students.

7th Grade:

9th Grade:

10th Grade:

Mikayla Ver Pault, 1st place Poetry Level III

12th Grade:

Lauren Russo, 2nd place Poetry Level IV
Alison DiLello, 3rd place Poetry Level IV

Other noteworthy statistics:

Out of 31 Waldorf students participating, 24 of them won a prize.
Waldorf students in the 7th grade swept the Poetry Contest for their level.
Waldorf students in the 7th grade swept the Vocabulary Bee for their level.
Waldorf students in the 8th grade swept the Number Bee for their level.
Waldorf students received first place in the Level I, II and II Poetry contests.

Besides the academic competitions, this Sprachfest was filled with cultural events such as skits, baked goods, and a display of gingerbread houses created by students, visual artwork and music, complimented by raffles and voting for next year's Sprachfest T-Shirts designed by students.
