Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Long Island Lutheran
In their return game against Long Island Lutheran High School (LuHi),Waldorf's Varsity Boys Soccer Team traveled to Brookville, NY to play on LuHi’s new turf field. While LuHi immediately went to a spread formation, Waldorf came out on the attack. The two teams found their rhythm and the offense/defense exchange, along with tremendous goalkeeper play. At halftime, the teams walked off tied 00-00. Said Coach Avari, "Waldorf had created several scoring opportunities, but we were unable to capitalize on them."
The second half started out with much of the same as both teams attacked the opponent and looked for that initial score. With just eight minutes into the half, LuHi scored a goal on a far post header off a corner kick and took the 00-01 lead. That was the last scoring chance they had as the Waldorf defense of senior Eric Tsai, juniors Sam Resnick and Ho Sub Kim, and senior goalkeeper Max Novick shut down the LuHi offense for the remainder of the game.
Waldorf switched to a more offensive formation and kept attacking the opponent’s goal.
Waldorf kept up their offensive surge, but LuHi was content to flood the defense with players for the final minutes, and won the game 00-01. In this very physical match, Waldorf outshot the opponent 19-12, and 7-6 in goalkeeper saves.
