Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Staten Island Academy
Event Type: Regular (League event)
Advantage:Home
Date: October 17, 2013
Result:Loss
Score:03-05
Event Recap:

Just forty-eight hours after giving up a heart breaking loss to Berkerly Carroll, Waldorf's Varsity Girls Soccer Team faced league leading, and defending PSAA Champions, Staten Island Academy on October 17th for a home match.

The ladies came out on fire, scoring five minutes into the game, when eighth-grader Conchetta Bohm took a perfect pass from senior Jaclyn Proctor to give Waldorf a 01-00 lead. The midfield combination of junior Mikayla Ver Pault and freshmen Luna Splendori and Abby Picoli pressed the opponents effectively, winning balls in the middle of the field that kept Staten Island in their own half. The work paid off. Thirteen minutes after the opening score, Bohm struck again on a lead pass from senior Sophia Trikas to take the lead, 02-00.

But Staten Island showed why they are league champions and struck five times within twenty minutes for the 02-05 halftime lead.

Not to be deterred, the ladies from Waldorf started the second half like the first. Trikas crashed the back post on a corner kick served-in from Bohm and brought the team within two. Bohm and Trikas continued to be dangerous, while senior Mairanna Paone patrolled the midfield for an injured Ver Pault.

Proctor stepped in goal for the second half, which required sophomore Sklya Davis to move to central defense. Davis was stellar along with fellow sophomore Julia Golebiewski and eighth-grader Fiona Somers. Proctor made five saves, while sophomore Maria Golebiewski claimed four during her first half performance. Staten Island out shot Waldorf 19-10, while committing 16 fouls to Waldorf's 6.

"I'm super proud of the way my girls responded after Monday's loss," said Coach Wyant. "We proved that we can compete with the best, and that will give us a ton of confidence going into the playoffs next week!"
