Waldorf's Varsity Boys Basketball Team opened the new year with a home game against arch-rival Portledge. "This was a very physical game," said Coach Boyd. "After a back-and-forth first quarter, Waldorf held Portledge to 6 points." Waldorf struggled to get its offense going. Sophomore Will Strauss connected on a 3 pointer with 45 seconds left and Junior Sheppherd Somers nailed a backboard 3 point buzzer beater to tie the score. In the second quarter, Waldorf turned the ball over and was outscored 17-9. During the second half, Portledge went on a scoring run; but Waldorf played very hard and it was an exciting game to watch. "We committed too many turnovers which minimized scoring possessions," said Coach Boyd. "But above all, we competed until the final buzzer. There was much learned from the loss."
