Waldorf’s Varsity Boys Soccer team played one of their finest matches on Wednesday, October 14th at the Portledge School in Locust Valley, New York as they defeated Portledge 2-0. Waldorf scored both of its goals in the first 20 minutes of play. Junior Costa Trikas got the team off to a great start with a goal in the first 5 minutes of play. This was soon followed by senior Anthony Spitaliere who pounced on a loose ball from about 12 yards out and beat their goalkeeper with a low hard shot. The sure hands of goalie Cristian Longoria registered 8 saves for the shut out. The defense of Ian Gagot, Martin Adams, Deni Carmon, and Michael Escribano was outstanding. Escribano, at sweeper back, was flawless and encouraged his teammates throughout the match. Midfielders Sean Proctor, Rangsi Sarnkingthong, and Costa Trikas played with tremendous energy and skill throughout the game. Freshman and substitute mid-fielder Orin Pearce came into the game on several occasions and gave a great balance. Forwards Seaton White and Anthony Spitaliere used their speed and quickness to keep Portledge’s usually solid defense off balance. Given the task of marking Portledge's top goal-scorer, D’Ercole unselfishly played his role beyond all expectations. As it looks to secure a play-off berth, Waldorf’s Varsity Boys Soccer team will play its final two IPPSAL league games at home next Wednesday, October 21st against Lawrence Woodmere Academy and on Friday, October 23rd against Long Island Lutheran High School.
Waldorf’s Girls Varsity Soccer team defeated Freeport High School, 2-0, on the Laszlo Jurak Athletic Field last Thursday, October 8th. Junior Sarah Chimino had one goal and one assist, while classmate Annabella Sugrue had one goal assisted by sophomore Victoria Jones. Goal keeper Alison DiLello had six saves and her third shut-out for Waldorf. Defensive backs Catherine Kleint, Carolyn Smalls, and Zoe Bousraou and Abby Lyons held Freeport to eight shots – reversing a previous 4-0 defeat. The team will be play against Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, New York next Wednesday, October 21st.
Congratulations to both teams!
