8th Grade Class Trip Packing List
All clothing should be sturdy, washable, and able to endure active work and play. Glen Brook weather tends to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Long Island. Layering is preferable for changing conditions. For example: T-shirt, Long Sleeved button-down shirt or long underwear top, Sweater, Windbreaker, raincoat or jacket.
Remember, too, that as the children get older, they will begin to perspire and may require additional changes of clothing in order to keep warm.
All items should be packed in a large duffle or soft luggage bag. Suitcases and trunks are not recommended. All items must be labeled. Please mark at least your child’s initials on the clothing tag, collar or waistband.
• 2-3 pairs of long work pants or jeans
• 2 pairs of sturdy tie shoes suitable for active work or hiking. (Hiking boots are fine or sturdy sneakers)
• Indoor shoes or slippers - If it doesn’t snow, it’ll be muddy.
• 1 long sleeved shirt for each day plus 2 or 3 undershirts or t-shirts for layering
• Plenty of socks (approximately 2 per day)
• Underwear
• Long Underwear
• Warm stocking hat and lightweight gloves or mittens
• 2-3 warm layers: sweater, sweatshirt, fleece wear (wool is recommended, because when it gets wet, it still keep you warm. Fleece doesn’t.)
• Jacket or coat appropriate for the season
• Rainwear including footwear – pants and jacket are preferred.
• PJs
• Soap, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, tissues and other toiletries
• Bath towel and washcloth
• Work gloves (inexpensive ones are fine – they do not need to be leather)
• Flashlight
• Knapsack or backpack to carry things while hiking
• Water bottle
• One set of school clothes for dress up dinner the last night.
• Sleeping Bag or sheet and blankets
OPTIONAL
• Pillow
• Camera (disposable is recommended)
• Baseball mitt
• Reading book, journal, paper and pens for personal use
Any medications or special procedures should be brought to the attention of the teacher prior to the day of departure. Please include written instructions. All meds must be labeled with the students name as directed by the school nurse.
Among the purposes of Glen Brook are working hard, eating well, living simply, enjoying the community of the class, and trying to transcend some of the intrusions of everyday life. No cell phones, I-Pods, electronic games or toys, gum candy or junk food should be brought to Glen Brook.
