On Friday, February 16th the sixth grade held a special bake sale before and after the Winter Assembly. Organized as part of their Business Math Main Lesson Block, the bake sale was used as a way for students to gain practical experience with the concepts learned in class.
With the oversight of Ms. Laura Johnson, one of our high school math teachers, the class put their newly learned business skills into practice by organizing the entire bake sale. As a group, the students budgeted the cost of supplies and advertising in order to prepare for the sale and then based the price of each item on the cost of making it, including their expected profit. The 6th graders took ownership of this real life project and came away with a heightened understanding of managing money, business concepts and working together. They even made a profit to donate to charity. Nice work 6th grade!
