The Seventh Grade will have monthly bake sales this year, with a theme of foods that reflect the various nations of the world to which the students are connected. In September, we studied the Age of Exploration and South America during Main Lesson. As part of the block, Lorenzo offered his family’s delicious recipe for a Peruvian drink, Chicha Morada, which looks like grape juice, but is rich in spices and fruit, not overly sweet, and was a favorite drink of the ancient Incas of Peru. In fact, students discovered that a version of this beverage was served to Francisco Pizarro and his Spanish conquistador soldiers when they arrived in South America in 1530. Try a glass of this delicious, refreshing beverage at the next Seventh Grade Bake Sale on October 12th!
