The third grade began their winter block in Gardening class focusing on grains and recipes. Using the bushel of rye that they grew, threshed, winnowed and milled into flour, they then baked it into bread. It was delicious! The class will study several other grains and then cook with them to encourage understanding of the entire production cycle, the variety of foods farmed and consumed around the world, and how to grow and cook in a healthy way for ourselves and the planet. Through this block students also reinforce their learning of fractions and measurements. Enjoy the photos below!
