2021 Waldorf Boys Varsity Soccer PSAA Metro Champions

Hicksville, NY,  October 27, 2021After an impressive regular season that finished with a 6-0 record, The Waldorf School of Garden City boys’ varsity soccer team entered the playoffs focused, determined, and quietly confident that they could bring home the Championship for the School. They defeated Lawrence Woodmere Academy in the semi-finals 6-1 and took command of the Championship game early in the second half against The Schechter School of Long Island where they went on to win 5-2–bringing the PSAA Metro Conference Soccer Championship title home to The Waldorf School for the first time since 2015!

According to Waldorf Athletic Director, Shane Flanagan, “Throughout the season Coach Roberto and Coach Steve kept the team grounded and focused on the task at hand. Some great performances were displayed, most notably by 12th graders Joshua Wang, Colin Li, and Florent Rhuma. Our soccer season may be over, but we continue to be proud of the amazing achievements and wonderful demonstration of teamwork and sportsmanship of our Waldorf scholar-athletes. This team maintained their composure and focus and represented the School with both honor and grace.”

During the championship game at Cantiague Park in Hicksville, two goals apiece were scored by Jasper Weinberger (11th grade) and Orestes Blades (10th grade), and rising star Olivier Rhuma (9th grade) netted one goal. In addition, individual awards were presented to Orestes Blades for Regular Season MVP, Jasper Weinberger for Playoffs MVP, and Coach Roberto Splendori was recognized as the Coach of the Year.  Congratulations to this extraordinary team!
