Guest Speaker: Waldorf Education: Does it Really make a Difference?

March 20, 2019 @ 8:30 pm EDT

With Guest Speaker Jack Petrash

In Bonner Hall

Waldorf Education: Does it Really Make a Difference?

The short answer is, “Yes,” but an important question is “How?”

This talk will look at what children will need to find their way in our rapidly changing world, as well as what Waldorf Schools are doing to help meet the demands placed on young people by these uncertain times.

A class teacher at the Washington Waldorf School for over thirty years, Jack Petrash took four classes from grade one to grade eight. He is also the founder and director of the Nova Institute, an organization that works to build a bridge between mainstream education and Waldorf Education. Jack is the author of Understanding Waldorf Education: Teaching from the Inside Out, Covering Home: Lessons on Fathering from the Game of Baseball, and Navigating the Terrain of Childhood: A Guidebook for Meaningful Parenting and Heartfelt Discipline. Jack’s TEDx talk, “Preparing Children for the Journey,” has also been widely viewed.

Throughout his career, Jack has focused on parent education, particularly for fathers. His pieces have appeared in the Washington Post and on NPR. Jack and his wife, Carol, have raised three children all of whom have gone through the Waldorf School from preschool to grade twelve.
