High School Jazz Band Director
Steve DeBellis is a drummer, percussionist, and educator from Smithtown, New York. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Long Island University’s C.W. Post Campus, and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the Queens College Aaron Copeland School of Music. He has studied with many accomplished musicians, including: jazz drum set with Earl Williams, Matt Wilson, and Dennis Mackrel, classical percussion with Frank Cassara, and Balinese Gamelan with Michael Lipsey.
Steve’s career thus far has taken him overseas to perform at festivals in France, China, Costa Rica, Ireland, and Puerto Rico. While in Puerto Rico, he also directed and performed one of his own percussion arrangements. Steve is currently actively gigging/performing as a freelance musician throughout New York City, Long Island, and the tri-state area; with highlights including several performances at Carnegie Hall and PASIC 2016, (Percussive Arts Society International Convention), which is the biggest percussion event in the world.
Aside from music, Steve enjoys reading, hiking, and snowboarding.
