Fall Fair and Alumni Day 2015

On Saturday, October 24th, the Waldorf School of Garden City held its annual Fall Fair and Alumni Day. The event, which was free and open to the public, was a wholesome and fun-filled day for children and families.

Organized by the school’s Parent Association, the Fall Fair had a host of fun carnival games, a magical puppet show as well as healthy food and tasty treats. (Special thanks to food vendors Food for Thought, Culinary Heights Inc. Gourmet Foods, Korilla BBQ, Lobster Joint, Hewlee Truck Frozen Yogurt and Whole Foods.)

Click through the following photos and video to see some highlights from this year’s Fall Fair and Alumni Day.

Scenes around the Fall Fair:

Alumni around the Fall Fair:

Many alumni and their families returned to the Garden City campus for numerous special Alumni Day festivities. Members from the classes of 1960 to 2015 were in attendance. Many alumni and their families dropped-by the High School Student Room to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast, to browse through old yearbooks, and to reconnect with friends. Quite a few also took part in the annual Alumni and Alumnae Soccer Games too!

Square Dance in Honor of Robert Weschler (photos):

Waldorf’s former physical education, dance and movement teacher, Ms. Bonnie Bolz led a fun Community Square Dance during Waldorf’s Fall Fair and Alumni Day in the School Gymnasium.

The square dance was held in celebration and honor of Mr. Robert Weschler, a longtime Waldorf teacher, who passed away over the summer. Among the many subjects and classes Mr. Weschler taught at the Waldorf School from 1951-2010, many will remember him from his days calling square dances for our middle school students as well as for the many community square dances enjoyed by our families.

Celebrating Our Champions:

In between this year’s Mens and Womens Annual Alumni Soccer Games, the School hosted a special program recognizing all of our past varsity girls and boys championship teams from each sport. Throughout the years the Waldorf School has fielded many talented teams, many of them winning their respective league championship and some even advancing to State Tournaments. Alumni who played for any of Waldorf’s past championship teams (soccer, volleyball, field hockey, cross country, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, or softball), were invited to participate in this special ceremony and took part in a Parade of Champions holding banners reflecting the 56 boys and girls league championships that have been captured since the high school opened in 1956. Now, that’s something worthy of us all celebrating, Go Waldorf!

Alumni Gathering at Prost Grill and Garten:

After a full day of reconnecting with friends and teachers, numerous alumni came out for for a fun Alumni Gathering at Prost Grill & Garten in downtown Garden City. One group of alumni from the 2000s even had the opportunity to connect with an alumna from the class of 1960; exchanging stories and learning about each other. Alumni raised a glass (or two), took a walk down memory lane and enjoyed some Oktoberfest-inspired finger food. The evening event also featured alumni musicians Terry Sullivan ’85 and Dan Strauss ’88.
