Josh Blumenthal ’99

Josh Blumenthal ‘99, is the Director of Athletics at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, WI. He was the Associate Athletics Director/Boys Lacrosse Coach at St. Andrew’s School (Austin, TX), which he held for five years.

The Long Island native just completed his 20th year of coaching lacrosse, having found suc­cess at the youth, high school, college, and international levels. He has received four “Coach of the Year” awards (two in 2021) and two sportsmanship nods for his team’s efforts.

While at St. Andrew’s, he was in part responsible for the oversight of the budget, operations, marketing, social media, college recruiting, and admissions athletics cultivation. For his efforts, he and his school were honored with the title of “Top Private School Athletics Social Media” and as the #2 Podcast (out of 1,888 private schools).

His first independent school stop was a four-­year stint as a teacher, the Sports Information Director, Summer Program Director, and Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Palmer Trinity School in Miami. From there, Blumenthal served as Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the U­19 Bermuda National Team in 2008 at the Under 19 World Games, held in Coquit­lam, British Columbia.

He received his undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Rhode Island before obtaining his masters in sports management from Adelphi, where he served as a Grad­uate Assistant Coach. He also played lacrosse at the University of Rhode Island and was a member of the 2001 Pioneer League championship team.

While at Waldorf, he was a four­-year member of the varsity lacrosse team. He garnered two NYMLA All-­League honors, captainship, and the 1999 Waldorf Senior Athlete of the Year and Spirit of Athletics Awards.

He and his family, his wife Cherilynn and their two children, Ethan (6) and Harper (1 1/2), re­ main big Waldorf fans.

Josh graduated from The Waldorf School of Garden City in 1999.
