Kathy M. Anderson, MD ’97

Dr. Kathy Anderson is a general pediatrician and integrative medicine physician in Bismarck, North Dakota. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Dakota and President-Elect for the North Dakota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is also the Midwest Regional Advocate for Diversity and Inclusion for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Anderson completed her undergraduate and medical studies at Brown University through the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME). In addition to her premedical studies, she earned Bachelor of Arts in sociology and Africana Studies. She went on to complete her Doctor of Medicine and graduated with clerkship honors in inpatient and ambulatory pediatrics.

Dr. Anderson completed her residency through the University of Hawaii at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. During her residency training at the University of Hawaii, she started a medicolegal partnership: working in conjunction with local attorneys to develop a comprehensive program for medical support, legal support, and advocacy for children and their families.

In 2012, she was awarded recognition by the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for her commitment to scholarly excellence and medical education.

Dr. Anderson has always felt that her role has included prevention and treatment of disease, education, and advocacy. She was Pediatrician Consultant for a National HRSA grant aimed to solidify early childhood comprehensive systems around social-emotional development, she was North Dakota Medical Association Representative on the Senatorial Bill SB5387 Task Force on Substance Exposed Infants.

Dr. Anderson completed her Fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona in 2015. She is currently Board Certified in both general pediatrics and integrative medicine. Dr. Anderson has been very active in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is president-elect for the North Dakota chapter of AAP, Midwest Regional Representative for Diversity and Inclusion, and Board Member for the Section on Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Kathy Anderson was born and raised in Uniondale, New York. She graduated from the Waldorf School of Garden City in 1997 and during her time at Waldorf, became the first student body president.
