Host, In the FOXlight

Michael Tammero ’89 attended the Waldorf School of Garden City from 7th through 12th grade. After graduation, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English and marketing at Fairfield University. In 1993, he graduated from Fairfield and earned his first job in marketing, working in the advertising department for Pergament Home Centers, the home improvement chain store that served the New York tri-state area.

After working for Pergament, Michael transitioned into television and began working for the “Rush Limbaugh Television Show”. The show, which ran from 1992 through 1996, discussed the day’s current political topics in front of a live audience. In his position as production assistant and director of audience services, Michael began a working relationship – that has continued for nearly 20 years – under the guidance of television executive Roger Ailes, the chairman and CEO of Fox News and Fox Television Stations Group.

“Some of the highlights,” said Michael “have included planning and organizing events like the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner for FOX as well as FOX Fan days which have become an annual event every summer.”

In 1995, Michael left the Rush Limbaugh Television Show in order to pursue a master’s in business administration (MBA) in marketing at Hofstra University. Two years later, Michael was hired full-time as an associate manager for Fox News; advancing through the ranks of manager, senior manager, director and, as of 2015, senior vice president.

Following the 2012 presidential elections, Michael began utilizing his charismatic and energetic personality to cover show business news as an entertainment correspondent and host of In The FOXlight for the FOX News Channel, the FOX Business Channel and FOX News Radio and Sirius XM Headlines.

According to the show’s website, “In The FOXlight” takes viewers on the scene – and behind-the-scenes – on today’s biggest movies and hottest shows.” Writes Michael, “We step past the red carpet, go beyond the velvet rope and provide viewers with VIP access to A-List celebrities.” Some of the celebrities Michael has recently interviewed include LeVar Burton of “Reading Rainbow”, Aaron Tveit of “Grease: Live” and J.J. Abrams, director of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

“At the end of the day, my work is about marketing. It’s about product development and outreach; reaching out to new audiences while also providing loyal viewers with a little break from the serious news and issues of the day.”

This past October 2015, Michael married his longtime partner, Mark Kruger, of twelve years. They live in Long Island City, New York.
