Richard Pisano ’78

President, Citrus and Allied

Richard Pisano Jr graduated from the Waldorf School of Garden City in 1978. He is the eldest of five boys, all of whom attended the School. After graduating from Waldorf, he attended Bucknell University and earned a degree in International Relations.

After college, Richard joined his family’s essential oil and aroma chemical company, Citrus and Allied Essences Ltd., where he began as a Sales Representative. Over the decades, he has held a number of positions including Treasurer, Executive Vice President, and President. With his brothers, in 2007 he founded Trilogy Essential Ingredients, a company that manufactures food flavorings. Richard is also the President of Trilogy.

The businesses owned by the Pisano family import and export hundreds of essential oils such as peppermint, lavender, lemon and lime, from and to countries located on six continents. They employ 200 people including many chemists, engineers, biologists, flavor chemists and many office and factory workers. Included in this group of professionals is fellow Waldorf graduate and classmate, Rob Haedrich, Jr. ‘78 who oversees the commodity and specialty purchases of the two businesses.

Richard attributes much of his personal professional success and the success of the companies to the incredible education he received at the Waldorf School of Garden City. “Waldorf taught me how to problem-solve and how to work in teams,” says Richard. “At Waldorf, I learned that history can be changed by a single individual and that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard. I also gained a deep appreciation for thinking creatively.”

Richard has been the Treasurer of his church, has served on numerous corporate trade association Boards of Directors, served as President for almost all of them, served on the East Woods School of Oyster Bay as a member of the Board of Trustees and has always had a special place in his heart for the Waldorf School of Garden City. In fact, the first fundraising efforts among the school’s alumni can be traced back to the 1980s when Rob and Richard organized phone-a-thons at Citrus and Allied’s offices in Lake Success, New York.
