Lexi Van Zant Receives 2013 Parent Association Scholarship

The Waldorf School of Garden City is proud to announce that Lexie Van Zant, a senior in the high school, is the recipient of the 2013 Parent Association Senior Scholarship $2,500 Award.

Through annual fundraisers – such as the Fall Fair and Photo Day – the Parent Association raises funds for School activities, such as the Parent Association Senior Scholarship and the annual Wish List. In addition to writing a compelling essay, criteria for the Parent Association Senior Scholarship Award includes a student’s academic record, participation in Waldorf’s programs and activities, and participation in the work of community, social or charitable organizations.

For the past five years, Lexi was among the nation’s top fencers in her age range, competing in the Junior Olympics. She is also a lifelong soccer player, where her years of travel team experience have boosted Waldorf’s Varsity Girls success. Lexi has also earned All County and Duel County Honors as a trumpet player and participates in extracurricular courses in photography, figure drawing and painting. She is a regular volunteer in her church where she sings in their choir and teaches fourth grade bible school. She also volunteers in local Habitat for Humanity campaigns, an experience she capped-off last summer when she traveled to New Orleans to build houses in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. This upcoming September, Lexie will attend SUNY New Paltz where she plans to pursue a course of study in liberal arts. Her award can be applied towards additional college expenses such as books and supplies.
