Halloween for
Nursery, Kindergarten,
Grades 1-5 and 9-12

Date: Thursday - October 31, 2013
Time: All Day

Nursery and Mixed-Age Kindergarten Classes:

The Nursery and Mixed-Age Kindergarten classes will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 31st. Children are welcome to wear their costumes to school. The Early Childhood faculty asks that these costumes be simple and imaginative, homemade if possible. A simple cape and crown; a pair of wings and a magic wand; a few strategically placed felt cutouts and a hat – these can be very satisfying props for the perfect Halloween costume. Allow your child’s imagination to fill in the rest. Sophisticated or media-based costumes often get in the way of the child’s own imaginative play and experience of dressing up. Please do not send the children with masks, face paint or anything that will be worn on their faces, goodie bags or candy. Please do send in a change of clothes if your child’s costume is not being worn over regular school clothes.

Grades 1, 2 and 3:

Grades 1, 2 and 3 will celebrate Halloween during the afternoon on Thursday, October 31st. Activities will include a gathering of all three classes on the playground. The teachers will lead songs and games, and provide a snack for all. It is important for all children to follow these guidelines for their costumes:

  • Students should bring their costumes to school in a sturdy bag - hence, simple is important!
  • Masks, hair dye, face paint, and gory accessories are not allowed.
  • Please no media inspired costumes or costumes representing commercial characters (also no skeletons or skull images).
  • Do not allow anything gory, violent or overly mature.

Remember, the simpler, the better! Given some dress-up clothes and a little help from an adult, children have the most fun creating their own costume (the least expensive and most green-friendly as well!) The teachers encourage students to consider a costume based on one of the many wonderful characters from the stories they hear at school. Please be sure your child has comfortable shoes and a costume he/she can run and play in! The games can be frustrating if they are not able to participate because of their costume. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to a fun afternoon together!

Grades 4 and 5

Grades 4 and 5 will celebrate Halloween together on Thursday, October 31st from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm with a story, some games and a treat in our classrooms and/or on the playground. Students should bring their costumes to school in the morning. They will change into their costumes after lunch and out of them for dismissal. Please remember:

  • Masks, hair sprays, and gory accessories are not allowed.
  • No media inspired costumes or costumes representing commercial characters (also no skeletons or skull images).
  • Do not allow anything gory or violent.
Thank you. We look forward to a fun afternoon together!
