Inspiring Faculty, dedicated Staff

The faculty at the Waldorf School of Garden City are models for the kind of people we hope to graduate: bright, relentlessly curious, and cross-culturally fluent. They are committed teachers and scholars - people who want to help you develop personally and intellectually.

We cannot say enough about how profoundly your teachers will affect your life. Because of our size and small classes, you will get to know your teachers as human beings, and in turn, they will get to know you.

Gordon Purdie is the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team and assistant athletic director at Adelphi University. He is also the owner and founder of Checkmate Lacrosse. Gordon first came to North America from his native Australia in 1986 to play in the World Lacrosse Games. The planned one-month stay became more extended when he was recruited by Adelphi University to play lacrosse for the Panthers. After earning his bacehlor’s degree in physical education, Gordon joined the Long Island Saints, a professional lacrosse team of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL). In 1993, Gordon arrived at Waldorf to head the school’s athletic department – a position he held for 15 years. During the school year, he can often be found on the sidelines supporting Waldorf’s athletic teams.
