Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Lawrence Woodmere Academy
Event Type: Regular (League event)
Date: September 11, 2013
Event Recap:

Waldorf's Varsity Girls Soccer Team played host to Lawrence Woodmere Academy (LWA) on the Laszlo Juriak Athletic Field in their first Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) league match, and inaugural game for new head coach Kim Wyant.

The girls came out with enthusiastic energy and controlled the game from the start. After just two minutes senior tri-captain Marianna Paone scored her first of four goals when she broke free inside the goal box after taking a pass from classmate and fellow tri-captain Sofia Trikas, and scored Waldorf’s first goal, for a 1-0 lead.

Paone took just another fifteen minutes to score her second goal, (unassisted) and two minutes later scored her third goal on as assist from freshman Abby Picoli. Paone scored unassisted for the fourth goal to give Waldorf a comfortable 4-0 lead at halftime.

The midfield was lead by junior Mikayla Ver Pault, while Abby Picoli, sophomore Sklya Davis, and 8th grader Conchetta Bohm made important contributions.

The second half was more of the same as Waldorf got back on the scoreboard again just fifteen minutes into the half on a goal by Bohm, with another assist from Trikas.

The staunch defense of senior tri-captain Jaclyn Proctor and sophmore Julia Gonzalez, with sophomore goalkeeper Maria Golebiewski collecting seven saves, preserved the team's shutout. Trikas got in on the action by scoring on an assist from Davis to give Waldorf an insurmountable 6-0 lead.

Coach Wyant commented that she was "very happy that every uniformed Waldorf player got in valuable playing time during the game. We’re off to a great start and I’m looking forward to the remaining season!"
