Waldorf's Varsity Girls Soccer Team returned to action on the home pitch on Tuesday, October 15th, but fell short 00-01 in an evenly contested match against the Berkely Carroll School from Brooklyn.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marie Golebiewski made eleven saves, while Berkely Caroll's goalkeeper made three. Waldorf's offense was in full force, pressing from the initial whistle. The forward combination of senior Marianna Paone, Sofia Trikas and eighth-grader Conchetta Bohm simply could not crack the Berkely Carroll defense. Several great scoring chances fell just short of the final pass.
"The team was flat throughout the match. We really stepped it up in the second half, but could not get into sinc," commented Head Coach Kim Wyant.
The defense lead by senior tri-captain Jaclyn Proctor, sophomores Julia Gonzalez, Skyla Davis and eighth-grader Fiona Somers were solid for the entire match.
Berkley Carroll counterattacked very effectively, which lead to fifteen shots along with four corner kicks. With five minutes remaining, a scramble in front of the goal off a Berkley Carroll corner kick resulted in the go ahead goal.
