As author, critic, and farmer Wendell Berry says, "Eating is a political act." At the Waldorf School of Garden City, we are committed to buying foods that are local, ecological, fair, and humane. Currently a significant portion of our food meets at least one of these "Real Food" criteria.

Our cafeteria is known for making daily, organic meals from scratch, with ingredients provided by local farmers and producers. Although today's global marketplace allows us to buy foods grown virtually anywhere in the world all year round, these options are not the most sustainable. At the Waldorf School of Garden City, we design our menus to reflect our dedication to purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables when they are in season in our area.
