Sports Night 2013

Student-athletes, parents and coaches gathered on Wednesday night, June 5th, for the Waldorf School’s 21st Annual Sports Night Dinner to celebrate the hard work and achievements of the School’s student-athletes. Sponsored by the Parent Association, the annual event is an opportunity to recognize student-athletes in grades 6 through 12 who participated in soccer, basketball, softball, or baseball during the 2012-2013 school-year. “Tonight we have the opportunity to honor our student-athletes who represented our School this year,” said Paul LeSueur, Waldorf’s Director of Athletics, “This year, our teams and athletes had many successes.”

“Each sport season, Waldorf was represented in the league playoffs, and with great success,” said LeSueur. “In the fall, our Varsity Boys Soccer team won the IPPSAL Championship and our Varsity Girls Soccer team advanced to the PSAA Semi-Finals. In the winter, the Varsity Girls Basketball team advanced to the IPPSAL finals. And this spring, the Varsity Boys Baseball team advanced to the PSAA Quarterfinals and the Varsity Girls Softball team advanced to the IPPSAL Semi-Finals.” Waldorf students also received numerous Player-of-the-Year Awards in addition to numerous All-League awards.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Gabriel Kane Spirit of Athletics Award to senior Cody Bach. Named in honor of Waldorf alumnus Gabriel Kane ’99, the award is given each year to a student-athlete who has demonstrated commitment and dedication to the Waldorf athletic program, along with integrity as a student-athlete. Throughout his years at Waldorf, Gabriel was an active member of the School community, played on the Varsity Boys Soccer, Basketball and Lacrosse Teams and sang with the Waldorf Singers and Madrigals. He had just graduated from Muhlenberg College at the time of his death.

The evening also marked the retirement of Athletic Director Paul LeSueur. Numerous members of the School community – representing students, parents and faculty – expressed their gratitude and thanks to Mr. LeSueur for his years of service to the Waldorf School of Garden City.
