Varsity Boys Basketball vs. Portledge School

Waldorf’s Varsity Boys Basketball Team opened its first league game against rival Portledge on Friday, November 30th.

Waldorf came out with a high energy that ignited our wonderful fans. The tempo that the team set forced Portledge to play at a higher level. The senior trio of Cody Bach, Max Novick and Caleb Yuan put Waldorf on the board in the first quarter. Freshman William Strauss had a big second quarter as he landed three 3-point shots and a layup to relinquish a lead. One of Will’s 3-point shots was a half court heave; just as it went through the net the buzzer sounded. The shot gave Waldorf a 28-25 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Waldorf played really hard on the defensive end, limiting Portledge to just reach double digit scoring. Freshman Max Sapupo caused havoc for the Portledge offense, while classmate Owen Mcghee owned the boards (rebounding). With a great team effort going into the fourth, Waldorf was still in a great position (32-34) to compete and possibly win the game. For much of the fourth quarter, Waldorf and Portledge traded baskets. Both teams made some tough shots with the defense being very high. Portledge was able to pull away and win by a final score of 43-50. Remarked Coach Boyd, “As we looked at the final score of the game, we feel very positive going forward.”
