Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Lawrence Woodmere Academy

Waldorf’s Varsity Boys Soccer Team traveled to Woodmere, New York for their opening league match of the 2012 Soccer Season against the Lawrence Woodmere Academy (LWA). In the first half, LWA took an early 2-0 lead against the untested Waldorf defense (who were missing their sophomore players). LWA scored in 14:25 minute of play on a scramble in front of senior goalie Max Novick, and again at the 18:46 minute.

Waldorf came out for the second half, relying on the leadership from returning seniors Orin Pearce, Caleb Yuan, Marco Spitaliere and juniors Axel Epie, Peter Escribano and Sam Resnick. The game now became a match between Waldorf’s skills versus the physicality of LWA.

LWA scored again at the 49:41 minute of the game on a breakaway to go up 0-3. Waldorf closed the gap to 1-3 when Pearce scored on a penalty kick at the 53:30 mark, but LWA scored on another breakaway at the 54:03 point.

LWA closed out the scoring and ended the game, 1-5.

Waldorf recorded 11 shots against LWA’s 12. Waldorf was called for six penalties, while LWA was whistled for 8 penalties, 6 offsides, and were issued 2 yellow cards for throwing elbows. Max Novick and freshman William Strauss combined for 6 saves in the loss.
