Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Solomon Schechter Day School

This second meeting with Solomon Schechter Day School (SSDS) took Waldorf’s Varsity Boys Soccer team to Jericho, NY for their final away league game of the season. Two home games remain prior to the conference playoffs.

Waldorf came right out determined to exert pressure on SSDS. Junior tri-captain forward Peter Escribano needed only four minutes to head in his first goal of the afternoon off a throw-in from senior tri-captain Orin Pearce. About six minutes later, senior tri-captain midfielder Caleb Yuan fed Escribano down the middle on a breakaway to score his second goal and the 2-0 Waldorf lead.

Waldorf’s defense of senior Eric Tsai, juniors Ho Sub Kim and Sam Resnick, and the return of sophomore defender Shepard Somers, held off any attempts by SSDS to counterattack as the first half ended with Waldorf ahead.

Waldorf continued their offensive pressure in the second half which led to Escribano’s third goal on another breakaway initiated from senior forward Marco Spitaliere’s through pass down the middle for a 3-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Escribano took another pass from Tsai, did some fancy foot work to lose the SSDS defender, and scored his fourth goal of the afternoon, and put Waldorf in front 4-0.

At the 61st minute, senior midfielder Cody Bach received a pass from sophomore midfielder Deepjot Singh down the left wing, drove to the goal and tucked the ball into the opposite corner to close out the game’s scoring and the 5-0 Waldorf win.

Due to weather conditions, the game was stopped with twelve minutes remaining. Waldorf outshot SSDS 15-3, while freshman keeper William Strauss recorded two saves for the shutout in his second full game in goal. Once again, all 19 Waldorf players contributed to the team victory.
