Waldorf’s Varsity Girls Basketball Team came back to even their early season record to 1–1 with a solid team effort against Our Savior New American School. After a disappointing offensive game against Portledge, Coach LeSueur told the players, “We must be more aggressive and attack the glass if we want to be more productive on the offensive end.”

Waldorf responded wel. Using the “Dribble–Drive” offensive scheme, the team put a lot of points on the board winning 63-22. OSNA’s defense had no answer for the power of Waldorf’s two rotating centers: senior co-captain Isabella Fraim (who recorded 12 points) and junior Ajanai Miller Randolph (who was the lead scorer with 16 points). Their strong presence inside also contributed to the team’s outside three guard system and resulted in career bests for juniors Marianna Paone (9 points) and Jaclyn Proctor (8 points).

All eleven Waldorf players recorded at least one basket and received valuable game-time minutes. Senior Alison Dilello (4 points) continues to impress with solid play at both ends of the court. Freshman Maria Golebiewski also scored four points on two nice assists from freshman teammate Skyla Davis. “Sophomore Mikayla VerPault (3 points),” said Coach LeSueur, “is contributing now and is one of our stronger rebounders.”

Senior co-captain Carolyn Smalls recorded two points but her impact on the game with quality passing and assists put Waldorf out in the lead from the get-go. Junior guard and speedster Sophia Trikas recorded two points along with freshman Teagan Novick. Novick gave some excellent minutes along with sophomore Nicole Tsai (1 point). Remarked LeSueur, “Tsai is playing with more confidence and should be contributing more as the season progresses. Sr. Katarina D’Ercole, although not scoring any points, contributed six rebounds off the offensive glass which helped provide Waldorf with additional shooting opportunites.
